Rouka

History

A Bulgarian dance that I learnt from Daria Sommer in 2007. She learnt it from Dimo Minkenberg.

Rhythm

There are eight fast beats in each phrase. On each beat there's a step or stamp, apart from the very last one.

Steps

Start in a line with arms in a W hold, facing right.

Step forward with the right foot, then give a little heel stamp with the left foot beside it. While this is happening slowly lower the arms to a V hold and let them go slightly behind the body.

Step forward with the left and heel stamp with the right. Keep the arms straight and bring them slightly forward.

Turn to face centre and step to the side with the right foot, then step across behind with the left. Keeping the arms straight swing them back.

Step to the side with the right and turn to face a little to the right, then lightly stamp with the left beside the right. Swing the arms forward.

Step to the side with the left and turn to face a little to the left, then lightly stamp with the right beside the left, Bring the arms up into a W hold.

Step to the side with the right and turn to face a little to the right, then lightly stamp with the left beside the right. Move the hands forward.

Step to the side with the left and turn to face centre, then lightly stamp TWICE with the right beside the left, Bring the arms back into a W hold.

There's a one beat pause at the end of the sequence.

Music

Sorry, I have no information about the music, my version is just an anonymous tape copy.
