Mantzurana

History

A Greek dance that I learned from Kyriakos Moisidis in 2009.

Rhythm

The music is in 7/8, split 3-4.

Steps

Start in a line, arms in a V hold, facing right.

Step forward with the right foot, then lift the left. Repeat this with the left.
Take two steps forward, starting with the right, then turning to face centre step to the side with the right, then lift the left beside the right.
Step forward with the left, then lift the right beside it.
Step back with the right, then lift the left beside it.
Turning to face left take two steps forward, starting with the left, then turn to face centre while stepping back with the left, then lift the right while turning to face right.

The dance sequence matches the musical phrase. There's a short introduction before the dance starts with the drumming.

Music
