Konstantinos

History

This is a dance from Thrace in north-eastern Greece, also known as Syrtos Trakis.

Rhythm

The music is in an even 4/4 rhythm with dance steps split into 2-1-1 or slow, quick, quick.

Steps

Start in a line, arms in a V hold, facing right.

Each group of three steps is in slow, quick, quick rhythm except for the last one, which is two slow steps.

Take three steps forward, starting with the right.

Take three steps forward, starting with the left.

Step forward with the right, then take two steps backwards starting with the left.

Step back with the left, then turn to face centre and make a slow touch close with the right.

The dance can start at the beginning of any musical phrase.
